JNews: Project Purpose

JNews

A Java application for reading Usenet news off an NNTP server. Eventually hopefully to be on a par with other major newsreaders such as pan, Gravity, and Agent. It's nowhere near that now... Included are such cool concepts as a multiple-tab-based UI, merging of articles from multiple servers, and other unusual Newsreading ideas.

Currently it's in its infancy. It's nowhere near usable by end users, although the core capabilities of subscription, header retrieval, message reading, and persistent storage are all already implemented.

It's not a very clean source base, and there are known bugs. (Read 0README.1ST).

Take a look at the project page for more information and web-access to the CVS tree. (Plus directions on how to get anonymous CVS access to the source tree.)

No versions have been allowed to escape (read: released), since it's REALLY unusable by anybody but very patient developers.
